FAQs:

Ketamine Therapy

What is ketamine?

Ketamine is a decades-old anesthetic and pain reliever that is now being used as a remarkable and rapid treatment for mood disorders, PTSD, addiction, and pain conditions.

How does ketamine work?

Ketamine is understood to interact with the NMDA receptor and the neurotransmitter glutamate, effectively allowing the brain to reset and restore connections between nerves.

What does ketamine feel like?

Most patients report a calming, relaxing sensation, as well as some dissociative feelings. One can gain distance or perspective on their present suffering. Some can access subconscious memory and emotion. Some can have very meaningful or consciousness-expanding experiences.

Do I need to have a therapist or psychologist already?

We prefer that you have an active mental therapist and/or psychiatrist involved in your care. If you have one already we will coordinate with them for seamless care.

Are sessions covered by insurance?

Many insurance providers do not cover ketamine therapy, but if your current provider does offer coverage we can provide an invoice for reimbursements for your sessions.

How long does the treatment take? Is it recurring?

A typical treatment session at CNI usually takes around 3 hours. We offer recurring sessions, the duration of which is tailored to each patient’s needs.

Should I bring anything with me to the session?

Some patients may choose to bring their own music to listen to or they can use one of our curated playlists. We encourage patients to bring their own eyeshades and headphones but if you forget we also can provide them. We also recommend bringing a journal and any supportive or meaningful personal items that you would like to have with you for your session.

What is the cost of treatment?

Cost of treatment varies depending on the length of sessions, severity of symptoms, personal circumstances, and conditions being treated.
